Even coastal farms with good average rainfall have been affected by the drought as is the case elsewhere in eastern Australia.

Devon cattle have been on Glenmore since the late 1930’s. A 28 cow dairy with some Devon milkers is where it all started. Over the years commercial Devons and cross breed Santa Gertrudis cattle have grazed on the soft country flats and timbered slopes of Glenmore. Country ranges from 53 metres to 212 metres above sea level. The 279 Ha farm consists of 64 Ha pasture improved, 215 Ha timbered country.

In recent times Richard and Pat have developed the Devon Cattle Stud. They started with 16 cows – generation A classification and pure Devon bull Cataneal Duke M14062 K13. The herd now has 9 different sire lines.

Palinga Paua VREV93 (known as Kev), lead stud bull was born 1st September 2000 and has been awarded the following titles:

• Winner of the 2002 Devon Spectacular (Junior Champion)
• Reserve Junior Champion 2002 RAS Sydney Show
• 130th Tamworth Show, Devon Spectacular Junior Champion
• 100th Newcastle Show Reserve Junior Champion
• 24th Gloucester Devon Show and Sale Senior Champion

Purchased on 20/09/2002, Kev has not been shown since purchase date because of herd requirements.

It is planned that the stud will have 90 pure Devon and Fullblood breeders, at present breeders total 43. Yearling bulls have been selling well into the coastal hobby farm market and larger commercial breeders.
